Exporting Animals from Cyprus BARC Export are available to provide you with all the information and help you require to take your pet with you on leaving Cyprus. Please contact us on 25211200 if you wish to use our services. The Pet Passport The first thing you will have to do to take your pet back to the UK is obtain a Pet Passport. If you do not do this the pet will either have to remain boarding in Cyprus until it is cleared to fly or will have to go into quarantine in the UK until the blood test date is 6 months old. We would suggest that you start the work immediately you acquire a pet, as the whole process takes eight months, and although the animal will need to have an annual rabies booster, the cost of this is far outweighed by the cost of leaving your pet in boarding kennels. Firstly, a microchip has to be inserted, and usually at this stage the vet will give your pet its first rabies injection. One month later comes the second rabies injection. After another month has elapsed the vet will take a blood sample which is sent to a laboratory in the UK. If your pet has sufficient rabies antibodies it will receive its Pet Passport, but still cannot fly immediately. Six months from the date when the blood sample was taken the pet is free to enter the UK. CMWDSU at Episkopi are available to give you advice on obtaining the passport and can be contacted on 25 963454 (Mil Ext 3454). Contacting the Export Clinic You will need to contact the Export Clinic approximately three months before you are due to leave the Island. We would be willing to give you a quote immediately you acquire your pet, to help you save towards taking it back. However, this figure could change quite a bit by the time you leave. BARC have a savings scheme you can join and can work out a monthly payment plan for you. An appointment can be made for you to come and see us if you phone 25 211200 Average Costs for taking a pet to UK (all in Euros) |

DOGS The only item that will differ for a dog is the flight cost and this is calculated on the box size, not on the weight of the animal. Below are guidelines for you to work from. The actual total cost will depend on the size, for breeds can vary. Also, you will pay extra for the flea, tick and worm treatment for dogs. Depending on the weight prices range from €26.00 to €56.00. |
Please note that the above charges are via Cyprus Airways into Heathrow. Prices will differ for other airlines into Manchester and Gatwick. |
* The Heathrow charges and handling charges are only €187 if the animal leaves on a 4 a.m. flight during weekdays. These charges are for the first animal. There will be an additonal charge of €25 for each additional animal. ** Our administration charge is €170 for the first animal, €17 extra for each additional dog and €8 extra for each additional cat. An extra charge of €25 will be made for animals taken to the airport for the 4 a.m. flight. An additional charge will be made for larger multiples of animals if two vehicles/handlers are required for transport to the vet and airport. For this we:
We will give a discount should you wish to do any of the above work yourself. Please ask our administrator for a full breakdown of these costs. Visiting the Export Clinic On your first visit to the Export Clinic you will be asked to bring with you:
At this stage we will give you an estimate and if this is acceptable to you, we will complete all the documentation required to take your pet to the UK. Documentation BARC have all the necessary forms that you need to complete and our administrator will help you with them. Payment Once the flight is booked we will be able to give you a final price and an invoice will be made out for you. This can be paid by cheque not less than one month before you leave the Island; after this time payment must be in cash. Cash payments must be received at least one week before you leave the Island. Boarding Facilities BARC may be able to assist you with boarding your animal prior to its departure but we would advise you to book this early. We have limited space and priority is always given to animals who are left behind for rehoming. Leaving Cyprus Between 24 and 48 hours before your pet leaves the Island it will be required to visit the vet for preflight treatment. All the booking and transport for this, if boarding at BARC, are included in the BARC Export Service. We prepare all the last-minute paperwork for your pet to leave and deliver it to the airport. Once at the airport, and all the documentation is complete, we then walk your dog and do not put it the box until they are almost ready to load. We then make sure it has water available and place it in the box. Unfortunately we cannot take cats out of their boxes (we would hate to lose one) but before leaving we check they have water and are settled down for loading. Arrival in the UK Pets enter into the UK on the Pet Passport Scheme via Heathrow, Manchester or Gatwick. Should you wish to have your pet transferred to another airport via an internal flight or by road we can arrange this but it can be quite expensive. Once your pet arrives at in UK it will be transferred immediately to the Animal Reception Centre (ARC) and will be available for collection approximately one hour after landing. It is advisable to collect your pet within this time if possible. However ARC will keep your pet for up to 4 hours without your incurring charges. After 4 hours you will be charged £99 sterling. Should a friend or relative be collecting the pet for you, they will need a letter of authorisation from you and some form of identification. We hope we will be able to be of service to you.
