* The Heathrow charges and handling charges are only 187 Euros if the animal leaves on a 4 a.m. flight during weekdays. These charges are for the first animal. There will be an additional charge of 25 Euros for each additional animal.
** Our administration charge is 170 Euros for the first animal, 17 Euros extra for each additional dog and 8 Euros extra for each additional cat. An extra charge of 25 Euros will be made for animals taken to the airport for the 4 a.m. flight. An additional charge will be made for larger multiples of animals if two vehicles/handlers are required for transport to the vet and airport.
For this we:
- make all the phone calls to book flights and vet appointments required prior to your pet’s leaving;
- order boxes when required;
- check that all your pet’s documents are in order;
- complete all documentation required to ship your pet;
- do all necessary photocopying;
- take your pet to the vet for preflight tick and worm treatment;
- obtain your Pet Passport and have this authorised by the Government vet;
- prepare box and documentation for flight;
- deliver your pet to the airport.
- A third of this amount is then put back into BARC funds to help with running costs, refurbishment of buildings and to help care for the animals left with us.
We will give a discount should you wish to do any of the above work yourself. Please ask our administrator for a full breakdown of these costs.
Visiting the Export Clinic
On your first visit to the Export Clinic you will be asked to bring with you:
- All the pet’s documents (vaccination book, blood test results and microchip details).
- If the animal is a dog, you will need to bring it with you to be measured for a travel box. If you already have a box this should be brought with you. Cats go in a standard-size box, but if you already have the box please bring it with you so that it can be measured and checked for suitability.
- An approximate travel date.
- Before booking a flight we will also need a UK address and telephone number from you, even if these are a parent’s or other close relative’s details.
- BARC refuse to book any flight until the documents and box have been seen.
At this stage we will give you an estimate and if this is acceptable to you, we will complete all the documentation required to take your pet to the UK.
Documentation
BARC have all the necessary forms that you need to complete and our administrator will help you with them.
Payment
Once the flight is booked we will be able to give you a final price and an invoice will be made out for you. This can be paid by cheque not less than one month before you leave the Island; after this time payment must be in cash. Cash payments must be received at least one week before you leave the Island.
Boarding Facilities
BARC may be able to assist you with boarding your animal prior to its departure but we would advise you to book this early. We have limited space and priority is always given to animals who are left behind for rehoming.
Leaving Cyprus
Between 24 and 48 hours before your pet leaves the Island it will be required to visit the vet for preflight treatment. All the booking and transport for this, if boarding at BARC, are included in the BARC Export Service.
We prepare all the last-minute paperwork for your pet to leave and deliver it to the airport. Once at the airport, and all the documentation is complete, we then walk your dog and do not put it the box until they are almost ready to load. We then make sure it has water available and place it in the box.
Unfortunately we cannot take cats out of their boxes (we would hate to lose one) but before leaving we check they have water and are settled down for loading.
Arrival in the UK
Pets enter into the UK on the Pet Passport Scheme via Heathrow, Manchester or Gatwick. Should you wish to have your pet transferred to another airport via an internal flight or by road we can arrange this but it can be quite expensive.
Once your pet arrives in UK it will be transferred immediately to the Animal Reception Centre (ARC) and will be available for collection approximately one hour after landing. It is advisable to collect your pet within this time if possible. However, ARC will keep your pet for up to 4 hours without your incurring charges. After 4 hours you will be charged £99 sterling.
Should a friend or relative be collecting the pet for you, they will need a letter of authorisation from you and some form of identification.
